Volunteer Opportunities:  We have a couple of opportunities

  1. Reading Program:  This program will accept 10 volunteers to read with children in grades 1 to 6 and play literacy games with the students. The program begins October 22nd until December 10th from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Grimsby Public Library.  See guidance for more information.
  2. Are you looking for an opportunity to complete your community service hours while building your resume and post-secondary applications?  GBF Community Services is recruiting volunteers to help in retail and receiving.  The hours are flexible, including after school, Saturdays & PD Days.  Please stop by GBF at 40 Elm Street or contact Nicole at volunteers@gbfgrimsby.com.  A special thank you to the students that joined us over the summer and we hope to see you again!

University Visit:  A representative from Waterloo University will be in room 104 during period 3 today.  All grade 11 or 12 students that have signed up for this presentation are welcome to join.  Laurentian University, Trent University and Humber College will be in later this week.  Please sign up in guidance to take part.

Student Well-Being:  The student Well-Being Team is a student driven club which identifies ways to improve student life at GSS, sets a plan and makes it happen!  Previous initiatives have included organizing and running assemblies, creating Exam Anti-Stress kits, and planning destressing activities leading up to exams.  If you are looking for a unique club to join, consider the Student Well-Being Team.  We have our first meeting this Tuesday at lunch in Rm 205.  Hope to see you there.

Jr & Sr Boys’ Volleyball:  Reminder for all Jr and Sr boys interested in playing volleyball, there will be a tryout today after school at 2:20 for the Jr and Sr boys volleyball team.  Hope to see you all there!  See Miss Bridges if you have any questions!

Sr. Reach:  Attention Senior Reach: A reminder that we meet today at lunch in room 310.Grades 11 and 12, new members are always welcome!

Grad Assembly:  Attention all grade 12 students! Tomorrow, during MSIP, we will be having the grad assembly for all potential grads.  You will report to your MSIP class first for attendance then your teachers will bring you down to the assembly.  Attendance is highly encouraged due to the important information that will be shared with you.

Ultimate Frisbee:  Ultimate players are reminded of practice Wednesday after school.  Please bring cleats if you have them.

Jr. & Sr. Girls’ Basketball:  There will be a brief meeting at lunch in the main gym for all members of the junior girls basketball team Wednesday September 18 to pick up forms and uniforms and hopefully a season schedule.  Practices will begin Thursday September 19 at 2:20 for both junior and senior girls in the main gym and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester.  Activity fees can be paid on cash on line starting Wednesday September 18

University Fair:  Attention all grade 12 university bound students!  On Sept 27 you will have the opportunity to go the University Fair in Toronto.  Sign up on school Cash Online as there is a limited number of seats available.  For more information see guidance.
